A self taught musician, Karl learned to play bass at the tender age of 15. By the age of 19, he had turned professional playing theatre bars and clubs around the English coastal resorts in 70s pop harmony group The Choice.
Later on he joined the widely acclaimed zany comedy outfit - The Mutton Chop Banjo Band and performed regularly on TV magazine programs such as Pebble Mill at One and Granada Reports as well as touring Britain's Theatres and Clubs. It was the time spent in this band that kindled his love for vintage jazz.
He has a keen interest in vocal harmony and his influences have come from such vocal groups as: The Four Freshmen, The Modernaires, The Ink Spots and The Boswell Sisters.
